Lead Paint Still Present in Many Existing Homes

Lead paint was banned in 1978, but if you live in a home built before then there could very well be lead present in painted surfaces both inside and outside. And there could be harmful dust released during any remodeling you have done unless precautions are taken to protect the residents.

EPA's Renovation, Repair and Painting Program

In fact, the EPA requires that when contractors are hired to remodel homes built before 1978, they must be certified for lead-safe renovation, and we had a chance to visit with a certified renovator, Michael Anschel of Otogawa-Anschel, and his crew to see what lead-safe remodeling involves.
