When we went to visit the factory where the floor and roof trusses for the Stone Cottage were being fabricated we stumbled onto a fascinating element of the company's history.
Villaume Industries is a 125-year-old family-run business in the St. Paul suburb of Eagan. During World War II Villaume contracted to supply all the wooden components for military gliders being assembled at a nearby plant.
Today, off in a corner of the truss factory, a group of retired veterans is building a replica of one of those gliders, with support from the current president of the company, Nick Linsmayer. |
