The Hometime Stone Cottage has a semi-detached covered porch. The roof for this porch is a compact, complicated unit with four dormer windows.
Our framing contractor, JL Schwieters Building Supply and Construction, decided that it would be quickest, and safest, to build the whole roof assembly on the ground, then lift it up with their crane and set it onto the four steel posts that will support it.
They also let the roofers climb on the structure while it was sitting in the driveway to lay the ice-and-water protection around the roof edge and to install their roof jacks.
When everything was ready, work stopped throughout the project and everyone congregated in the driveway to watch as the roof was raised, and then lowered...
