House Remodel - Phase II
years ago we gave this house the facelift that turned it into a Prairie-style
house and remodeled the master suite while we were there. This time we're working
on the back side of the house. Our mandate this time? Make the beautiful Prairie-style
house more family-friendly.
plan is to create an informal family-oriented area that also establishes a connection
with the back gardens. The new space needs to be separate from yet related to
the existing formal areas of the house.
addition, the family entrance to the house (up a flight of stairs from a tuck-under
garage) needs to be made more useful. That means expanding and reconfiguring the
mud room to accommodate all the sports and school gear that comes with teenaged
children, and moving the laundry room to the main floor just off the mud room.
