Shoreline Restoration

In this two-part series, Dean Johnson explores ecological and aesthetic issues as he documents the efforts to stabilize and restore the crumbling shoreline around a 5-acre pond. Among the steps covered are "de-watering" the pond temporarily, testing soil, treating invasive weeds and grasses, re-grading, controlling erosion, rebuilding a boardwalk and replacing an earthen dam.
