Johnson and Robin Hartl follow the construction of a high-end home with emphasis
on design, products, and rich architectural details. They show historical and
contemporary examples of houses with and without character; consult with project
architects; and explore the history of the area. House
with Character: The Foundation Introducing
the floorplan; the foundation is poured; and the first-floor deck is framed.

the shape, dynamics and economics of the shell as the above-ground walls are poured;
exploring window and roof design options. House

the effects of daylighting and views; installing redwood fascia and concrete roof
